The Community expands the 2019 Regional Crafts Awards with three new categories

On November 29, these awards were presented at the Regional Craft Center

This year, the Community incorporates three new categories into the Regional Crafts Awards: Artisan Nativity Scene Award, Food Crafts Award and New Artisan Talents, which are added to the four traditional categories (Regional Craft Award, Artisan Product, Artisan Entrepreneurship and to the Promotion of Crafts for Private Entities).

On November 29, the awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Regional Craft Center of Murcia, with the assistance of the Minister of Business, Industry and Spokesperson, Ana Martínez Vidal. These awards recognize the work of the artisans of the Region who stand out for their creativity, social and environmental responsibility, their adaptation to the market, their capacity for innovation and for encouraging business entrepreneurship.

Winners 2019

The Regional Craft Award has gone this year to the master craftswoman Anabel del Canto Rodríguez, in recognition of her consolidated career. Since 1978 he has been dedicated to the technique of fire enamel on metal and glass, he also makes signature jewelery and sculptures and teaches training courses.

The Artisan Product award goes to Yolaina Yalí Vílchez, for her 'Memories, Souvenirs, Memories' collection. This artisan is specialized in contemporary jewelry in silver and other metals such as copper, bronze, nickel silver and brass. It uses techniques such as mokume gane, kum-boo, oxidation and patinas, forging, texturing, microfusion, setting, graining and vitreous enamel.

Mario Fernández and his sculpture workshop 'Libélula Art' have been recognized as Entrepreneurship of the Year. This craftsman makes sculpture works in stone, bronze, marble and polyester for parks and museums; sets and props for cinema, theater and television; floats for parties and pieces for architecture and ornamentation. His work ranges from hand drawing and clay modeling, to the use of the latest 3D technologies in digitization and printing.

The Craft Promotion Award is collected by the Association of Artisans of the Region of Murcia (CREA), which works for the economic, professional, training and social interests of its associates, seeking excellence through the professionalization of the sector, as well as the survival of trades and the dissemination of new products through exhibitions.

The newly created Belén Artesano award recognizes Jesús Griñán SL, an artisan company that has been operating since 1970 and that in recent years has assembled a monumental nativity scene with more than 300 pieces in the Norwegian city of Drammen.

Artesanía de Alimentación is for Salazones Garre, a family business that produces salted fish by hand, using sea salt from the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar as the only preservative.

As New Artisan Talents, Enriqueta Mercader is recognized, with 'Donne Del Mare', which she presented as a final project of studies in the Higher Cycle of Artistic Jewelry at the School of Art of the Region.

The winners will receive a trophy, a diploma and a prize of 1,250 euros (2,500 in the case of the Regional Craft Award). In addition, all the finalists and winners will show their creations in a temporary exhibition in the three regional craft centers (Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca).

The jury for the awards was made up of representatives from the world of art, design and gastronomy (the president of the Association of Confectioners of the Region of Murcia (Arepa), Ricardo Ruiz; the director of the Murcia School of Art, Julio Sánchez; the chef with two Michelin stars, Pablo González Conejero; the dean of the Association of Interior Designers and Decorators of the Region of Murcia, Rosa Sánchez; the director of the School of Arts, Herminio Estrella and several master craftsmen). In addition, the general public has been able to vote online and through a ballot box installed in the Regional Craft Center.
