On March 17, at 10:30 a.m., at the Regional Craft Center, the III regional meat pie contest was presented, organized by the Murcia Regional Association of Pastry Entrepreneurs (Arepa) and the collaboration of the General Directorate of Consumption and Crafts.

This contest is held to promote and highlight the importance of one of the most representative confectionery products in the Region of Murcia, but above all to promote its excellence and give public recognition to the pastry artisans of our Region.

There is evidence of this typical Murcian recipe since the end of the 17th century, because during the reign of Carlos II, Royal Ordinances were enacted that regulated the rules for its preparation.

It is a round cake with a top of fine puff pastry in the form of concentric rings, stuffed with beef, chorizo and egg, although it has a variety that substitutes beef for brains and that due to its costly preparation and nutritional richness they exclude it from the concept of junk food.

Participants must be registered or in the process of being registered in the Artisan Registry of the Region of Murcia in the pastry trade before the contest begins and be active at the time of the competition.

On April 18, 2022, a jury made up of qualified professionals from the sector will assess the meat pies submitted to the contest by tasting them at the Murcia Regional Craft Center. The cake that obtains the highest score will win and will be recognized as "Best Meatloaf 2022", obtaining a trophy for the winner and a plaque for the workshop.
