Lorca Craft Center
The Lorca Craft Center was inaugurated on March 18, 1988. This Center is located in a building designed by the architect Juan Antonio Molina Serrano and is located between the Palace of Guevara and the Church of San Mateo, in the historic center of Lorca, in a busy area due to its commercial and tourist importance.
It has an area of 1,306 m2. Inside, in a diaphanous space that is articulated by means of ramps at different levels, different areas are shown where the products made by the artisans registered in the Artisan Registry of the Region of Murcia are exhibited and sold. Halfway up it has a room for temporary exhibitions and on the ground floor there is a space for live craft demonstrations with a loom and lathe.
This building marked a milestone by becoming the first Craft Center built in all of Spain. It was conceived as an instrument for the dissemination and promotion of Crafts in the Region of Murcia, where permanent and other temporary exhibitions are held, and at the same time an information center for the general public and training for artisans, constituting a adequate framework for the presentation and execution of craft activities.
It has been distinguished with a Special Mention in the category of buildings for residential use of the Award for Quality in Building of the Region of Murcia 2010.
The Center is integrated into the SICTED project for Tourist Quality in Destination and has been certified as a distinguished establishment in Good Commercial Practices since 2008. Obtaining recognition as the "2nd Finalist Most Competitive SICTED Establishment 2020" award winner.
