TO. “GUNAR KUR KARKAR” BY ANTONIO MARTÍNEZ AYLLÓN
This work is based on Surrealism, which is usually inspired by phrases brought from the subconscious, just as he promoted free association in psychoanalysis to inspire his works. His collection follows the same pattern, collecting from the works of Remedios Varo, that surreal spirit and transferring it to each of the pieces. She is the greatest female exponent of Spanish surrealist painting, diving into her biography she found the use of a phrase that for her had a magical component "Gunar Kur Karkar" that she liked to give this collection a title.
It is a collection of pieces framed in sculptural-narrative jewelry, of different types that stems from his passion for his paintings. With them he wants to tell the stories of his paintings, of his life, of his world, transmitting culture and love for surrealist art. Inspired by some of the esoteric messages from his inner world: alchemy, archetypes and magic.
The intention of this collection is to capture the spirit of Remedios' work through an interdisciplinary relationship from painting to jewelry, using materials such as brass and nickel silver with more contemporary ones such as resin and biodegradable plastics. Applying in them ancestral techniques such as stoning and combining them with the latest 3D printing technologies.
The pieces presented are:
- Temporary capsule, brooch that represents an allegory of encapsulation of nature and life in an instant.
- Selene in a cage, this ring reproduces and brings to the fore the central idea of the painting "Star porridge", but creating a conscious contrast through the materials used.
- Caged Selene 2, this piece has the versatility of the feminine since it can be both a pendant and a ring. Like the moon, it can adopt all its phases.
- Nocturnal spirit, this ring within its collection represents through the material used, the fragility of the nocturnal spirit as well as the lunar reflection of the painting that inspires it.
The union of opposites, this brooch inspired by the painting "Unexpected Visit" reflects Surrealism's attempt to integrate into this world the force of the conscious and the unconscious that is normally below reality, here both are visible and manifested by shaking hands.
