14 FINALISTS FROM THE SPANISH ARTISAN SECTOR COMPETE IN THE 2020 NATIONAL ARTISAN AWARDS

The winners of the Awards will be announced at a ceremony that will take place later this year.
These awards aspire to give institutional recognition to the most outstanding performances in the field of contemporary crafts.

The Awards consist of five categories: National Award, Promociona Award for Public Entities, Promociona Award for Private Entities, Entrepreneurship Award and Product Award.

EOI-Fundesarte, the reference organization in the promotion and development of Spanish craft companies, announces the selection of the 14 projects that will compete for the 2020 National Craft Awards in their different categories.

The National Crafts Awards, convened by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism through the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) and its chair for the promotion of crafts, Fundesarte, seek to give prestige to a sector that in Spain represents 0.4% GDP, presenting it in an environment of quality and excellence. These awards give recognition to those craft companies that, preserving their essence of traditional trade, stand out for their creativity, social and environmental responsibility, adaptation to the market and capacity for innovation. Likewise, institutions and companies that have contributed significantly to promoting artisan work are rewarded.

The thirteenth edition of these awards has received 95 nominations from all the autonomous communities, except La Rioja and Cantabria, highlighting the Community of Madrid, Andalusia and the Valencian Community with more than ten respectively. The most represented sectors in this edition are: ceramics, wood, glass, textiles, jewelery and bijouterie, fur and leather, forging and metal.

Finalists
In this edition, Luesma Vega SL (Catalonia) with its tableware for haute cuisine, Paco Luis Martos (Andalusia), a specialist in Mudejar coffered ceilings, and the Talavera Ceramic Center (Castilla-La Mancha) compete for the National Craft Award.

In the Product Award modality AyF Tejedores (Andalusia) compete for the sustainable collection El Eterno Vaquero, Luis Parades (Asturias) for the glass pieces that make up Submerged Stories and Pottery Project SL (Murcia), for its collection of Totana lamps.

In the case of the Entrepreneurship Award, the Galician Inés Rodríguez competes for her space
RiR & Co Artisan Textile Design, Ana Martínez and David de Felipe for their Dsnú studio (Madrid), and Santiago Besteiro for his studio-workshop (Galicia).

The Cultural Association Hornos de la Cal de Morón (Andalusia); the Ferreiros de Mazonovo (Asturias), for their work promoting forging, and Luis Méndez Artesanos SL (Salamanca), for their gallery in which they promote filigree as a contemporary technique and other craft specialties.

Finally, the public entities that are competing for the Promociona Award for Public Entities are BEAZ, with its Bizkaia Eskutik initiative (Basque Country) and the Public Crafts Foundation of Galicia with the Crafts in Prato project (Galicia).

The finalists have been selected by an assessment committee made up of Jaume Coll, director of the González Martí National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuary Arts; Teresa Jular, president of the Spanish Network of Design Associations (READ); Laura Miguel, head of Fundesarte at the EOI Foundation; Tachy Mora, journalist specializing in design and crafts; Paula Ojea, ceramic artisan, National Craft Award in the Product category, 2020; José Sereno, head of the foreign trade service of the Ministry of Economy, Science and Digital Agenda of Extremadura.
